The Chapter

Message from Chairperson

Dear Fellow members,

It’s a great honour and privilege to lead the Chapter for the year 2024-2025. I am overwhelmed with pride, and I take this responsibility with passion, dedication and commitment. I together with my team of committed individuals will work to take the Chapter to great heights. Our motto is THINK BIG and we will do everything possible to provide a great member experience, increased engagement, and more visibility to the Chapter.

Australian (Sydney) Chapter of ICAI was established in January 2007 and since then it has been growing from strength to strength. I was one of the founding members of the Chapter and I’m glad to see that the vision that we had set up in mind is coming to reality. I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks and acknowledge the outstanding work done by our previous committees to set a solid foundation for us to build on. We look forward to their continuing support and guidance to our fraternity as the world of accounting is evolving and digitally transforming.

As Steve Jobs said “Great things in business are never done by one person. They are done by a team of People”, I am truly grateful to other committee members who work voluntarily with the single aim of providing a great networking platform and training and development opportunities to our members. Over the years, the Chapter has played a significant role in providing support to members who call Australia their second home.

ICAI currently has more than 370,000 members across the world, and we all carry this prestigious CA brand with pride. Many of our fraternity members have excelled in their respective careers, achieved several accolades, and brought glory to our profession. ICAI has a presence in 78 cities across the world and it is growing every year as our members spread their wings. It's heartening to see that members based in Australia are taking advantage of our memorandum of Understanding signed with CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. We are looking forward to strengthening this collaboration in the coming year.

The committee has planned several events in 2023 and it’s going to be a very rewarding and exciting time for the Chapter. These events include continuing professional development (CPD) activities, and social and family events which will foster collaboration and deep engagement within our community. Given that Covid-19 restrictions have eased out, the committee has plans to stage more in-person events to provide a fantastic opportunity for everyone to meet face-to-face. During the year ended December 2022, the Chapter organised 42 events and the team is geared to provide more opportunities in 2023 as well.

We have established the following sub-committees which are led by committed volunteers.

  • Memberships and Support
  • New Migrants Assistance
  • Family and Social Events
  • SPARC – Sponsorships, Affiliation, and Collaborations
  • Information Technology and Website

The dates for our flagship events, International Conference and Diwali Gala Dinner are finalised. More information will be shared on WhatsApp and other social media channels as we progress.

I request you all review the planned events and book your personal calendar in advance so that you remain an integral part of Chapter’s exciting professional and social journey. Detailed information about the registration for each event will be shared closer to the date. Your engagement and participation both are critical for the success of these events and the credibility of our Chapter across the world.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors (past and present), our catering partners the leadership team of CA ANZ and CPA Australia for their continuous support and guidance over the years.

I am looking forward to meeting as many of you throughout the year at various events.

Yours in Service,

CA Tanuja Bissa
